New Delhi: Following the recently declared ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the Indian government has officially halted the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran. The decision comes after several successful rescue operations conducted over the past few days amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Late last night, 282 Indian citizens safely landed at Delhi airport, marking what could be the final phase of Operation Ajay 2, India’s emergency repatriation mission. The evacuees expressed relief and gratitude, many of them having spent days in shelters and safe zones arranged by the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the suspension of evacuation flights was decided after assessing the ground situation post-ceasefire. With relative calm restored and no immediate threat reported, we have paused further evacuations. However, we are fully prepared to resume flights if the situation demands, said a senior MEA official.

The Indian government had earlier set up helplines and coordination centers to assist over 1,200 Indian nationals stranded in Iran, including students, pilgrims, and professionals. Most were relocated to safer areas before being flown back in batches through chartered flights.

The ceasefire, announced earlier this week and mediated through back channel diplomatic efforts, appears to be holding so far. Global powers, including the UN and EU, have welcomed the truce and called for continued restraint from both Israel and Iran. Meanwhile, Indian intelligence and security agencies remain on alert, monitoring developments closely. The MEA has also advised Indian nationals still present in the region to remain cautious and stay in contact with local embassies.
