Ignoring no-trust motion and passing laws insults Parliament: Congress
Ignoring the vote of no-trust and continuing to pass bills is an insult to Parliament, also known as Congress. After the motion of no-trust was granted, the Central Government was able to get seven important measures enacted in the Lok Sabha.
NEW DELHI: The chaos in the Lok Sabha resumed on Monday as the Treasury Benches and members of the Opposition fought over the Manipur issue. The members of the opposition have been requesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the Manipur issue in the House and that Rule 267 be discussed.
To stop movie piracy, the government passed the Cinematograph Amendment Bill in 2023 amidst the clamour. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, suggested that the Centre take up the no-trust resolution before attempting to move bills through the House. He claimed that passing the bills before debating the no-trust motion was disrespectful to the House.
Seven important measures have been passed by the Centre in the Lok Sabha after the no-trust resolution was approved. The passing of bills after a no-confidence motion has been admitted, according to the opposition, violates parliamentary customs.
The floor leaders of the Opposition alliance INDIA were updated by the delegation of MPs that visited Manipur earlier in the morning. Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, two prominent members of the Congress, were also present. N K Premachandran, an RSP MP who was a member of the delegation and spoke to this publication, claimed that the MPs addressed the situation in the conflict-torn state and made a number of recommendations.
While all this was going on, the Opposition’s clamour caused numerous adjournments of the Rajya Sabha. The government has consented to a conversation regarding the Manipur problem after exhibiting resistance last week.
At 3.30 p.m., following four adjournments, the House reconvened, and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the members that the government has agreed to a discussion on the situation in Manipur, which has seen violence.
We are not giving the country a good example, Dhankhar complained. The whole country is watching us. The government is prepared to have a conversation about Manipur.
