Human Rights Council :India lists its pledges for forthcoming Membership listing

Geneva, Sep 1 (UNI) As a candidate for membership of the Human Rights Council for 2022-2024 term, India has made specific pledges, outlining its approach and agenda for global promotion and protection of human rights, India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva said on Wednesday.
It listed a number of Voluntary pledges and commitments in accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 60/251, in a series of tweets.
These include:
India will continue to support the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, including through regular voluntary contributions
India will continue to cooperate with special procedures, accept requests for visits and respond to communications
India will continue to strengthen implementation of the Human Rights treaties that it has ratified
India will continue to cooperate with treaty monitoring bodies and engage constructively with them in the context of fulfilling its human rights obligations
India is committed to implementing the recommendations it has accepted during the third cycle of the Universal periodic Review
India remain committed to ratifying the convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
India will continue to expeditiously collaborate with all the stakeholders, domestically as well as internationally, in order to build back better from the pandemic and ensure the health and well-being of its citizens alongside the rest of the world
India will remain committed to fight the global pandemic and ensure the availability, accessibility and affordability of Covid-19 vaccines for its own citizens as well as for the benefit of the entire humanity
India will continue to uphold the highest standards in promotion and protection of Human Rights
India will continue to strive for full realisation of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to development
India will continue to support protection and promotion of rights of women and children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through necessary laws, programmes and policies
India will continue to support international efforts to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance
India will support implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and continue to pursue necessary domestic actions to implement the agenda, with overarching focus on poverty eradication and balanced emphasis on social development, economic growth and environmental protection
India will remain committed to promote and protect full and effective enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, including issues related to access to medicines, diagnostics and therapeutics to mitigate the Covid-19 pandemic.
