Hamirpur (HP), Jan 7 (UNI) Fifty-nine more students of NIT, Hamirpur were among 85 people who were found Corona positive in Hamirpur on Friday, said a spokesman of the Health Department.

The number of active cases in the district has risen to 233.
The number of totals confirmed cases have risen to 18,318 and that of cured people has gone up to 17,776.
The spokesman said that as many as 726 samples were tested today out of which 85 were found infected with the virus.
The number of total fatalities in the district stood at 308.
He said that all the 233 active cases were under Home Isolation.
Meanwhile, Yogesh Gupta, the Registrar of NIT said that the Covid positivity cases started surging in the last week of December 2021 in the country and the notice for calling back our students had been issued well before the beginning of December 2021 when the situation of covid positivity was mild.
He claimed that the Institute was striving for maintaining the quality of education by calling the students back to the campus and following all the protocols & guidelines to run the activities.

“The situation arose due to Covid positivity cases of our students, is temporary and the Institute affairs will be normal as soon as the covid situation comes to normalcy in the coming days,” he added.

As far as the hostel fee is concerned, the difference as mentioned in the email is only due to the reason that some components of the same were exempted when the students were not residing on the campus due to Covid. Now, the usual fee has been charged as they are back on the campus.

However, it is pertinent that in case the situation of Covid-19 worsens and students stay back in their homes during the current semester, the hostel fee will be adjusted/refunded in the coming semester as per provisions of Institute hostel rules.

He expressed optimism that the situation will be normal soon and the Institute will run normally in the coming few days.

In the meantime, he clarified that the student has denied having sent any such email to any person or press.
