Ludhiana : A soulful and spiritually enriching weekly Kirtan Samagam was held at Gurdwara Shri Singh Sabha, drawing a large number of devotees from the local community. The divine event was marked by the recitation of Gurbani Kirtan and shabads that touched the hearts of all present. Among the hymns sung, “Tere Naam Ke Bhikhari, Bal Hoa Bandhan Chhoote” resonated deeply, invoking devotion and emotional connection with the teachings of Sikh Gurus. The atmosphere in the Gurdwara was filled with peace and reverence as the sounds of traditional instruments like the harmonium and tabla blended with powerful vocals of Raagis.

The Samagam began in the early hours of the morning with the traditional Asa Di Vaar, setting the tone for a serene and spiritually uplifting experience. The Sangat (congregation) participated with full devotion, reciting along and absorbing the meaning of the shabads. The verses emphasized themes of humility, selfless service, and surrender to the Divine Name (Naam). The shabad “Tere Naam Ke Bhikhari” was especially moving, reminding attendees of the eternal power of God’s name to free one from worldly attachments and suffering.

Gurdwara committee members shared that these weekly kirtan gatherings are organized to promote spiritual awareness and to bring the community together in devotion. They emphasized the importance of connecting with the Guru’s bani (words), especially in the fast-paced, modern world where spiritual reflection often takes a backseat. The session included interpretations and explanations of the shabads to help the younger generation understand their meanings and relevance in daily life.

In addition to kirtan, the program included Ardaas (prayer) and the Hukamnama (divine order of the day), which provided guidance and motivation to the sangat. The event concluded with the serving of langar — a free, community meal prepared by sevadars (volunteers) — as per the Sikh tradition of equality and community service. Devotees expressed their gratitude for the peaceful experience and encouraged others to attend regularly for spiritual upliftment.

Such events are part of the Gurdwara’s broader mission to preserve Sikh values and culture, while providing a spiritual sanctuary for people of all ages. Attendees, including elders, youth, and children, all reflected on the positive energy and sense of unity the kirtan instilled. The organizing committee reiterated that everyone, regardless of background, is welcome to join in the weekly Samagams and feel the peace and strength that comes from Gurbani.

As the congregation dispersed after bowing before Guru Granth Sahib, the divine vibrations of the shabads lingered in the minds and hearts of all. The organizers plan to host more such spiritual events and encourage more active participation from the youth in kirtan and seva activities. Events like these continue to serve as spiritual anchors for the community, reminding them of the power of Naam and collective prayer.
