with the Mumbai High Court’s clear order given in 2016 to remove unauthorized loudspeakers from all religious places in Maharashtra on the public interest litigation filed against them by us. Therefore, in 2018, we again filed a contempt petition in the Mumbai High Court against that. When asked about unauthorized loudspeakers by the Maharashtra police under the Right to Information Act, only 40% of the Police responded. The rest of the Police avoided commenting. Out of 40%, 2,904 loudspeakers are unauthorized and 1766 of them are on the mosques and madrasas. More than 900 loudspeakers are in Mumbai. In fact, this number could be thrice. The petition was not heard during the Coronavirus period; however, in order to give justice to the people, the contempt petition should be heard as soon as possible and strict action should be taken against the Police for violating the rules and not following the Court order’, demanded the petitioner Santosh Pachang from Navi Mumbai. He was speaking in an online special interaction organized by Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti on ‘Why does the Court order not apply to the loudspeakers on mosques?’, questioned the HJS in an official release here. Supreme Court Advocate Gaurav Goyal said, “Action should have been taken after the Court order against the unauthorized loudspeakers on the mosque. This has caused the contempt of the Court. The Court should now take action against those authorities under whom no action was taken against unauthorized loudspeakers. The noise from these mosques is causing a lot of noise pollution. It is also affecting all the citizens as well as the students. Spokesperson of Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti Narendra Surve said, “There are many sects like Wahhabi, Sunni, Shia, Salafi among Muslims and they do not go to each other’s mosque. Therefore, when one Ajan ends, that of other’s starts. Therefore, the non-Muslim people have to listen to the unauthorized and unwelcome Ajaan not five times, but more than 25 times a day. This is an injustice to the majority Hindu community. To say ‘Our God is the best!’ is like hurting the feelings of other religions. Political leaders do not tackle this problem of illegal bells to appease Muslims”. (UNI)
