High Court orders Rs 2 lakh salary cut for Punjab DGP, 3 IAS officers
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the deduction of ₹2 lakh from the salaries of four senior Punjab government officials — including DGP Gaurav Yadav and Transport Secretary Pardeep Kumar — for failing to comply with earlier court orders.
According to the directive, ₹50,000 will be deducted from each officer’s salary and deposited into the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The other two officers penalized are Manish Kumar (IAS), State Transport Commissioner, and Jitendra Jorwal (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Sangrur.
The order came during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning enforcement against modified vehicles. The same officials had earlier been fined ₹1 lakh each and instructed to submit proof of payment with their compliance affidavit.
Justice Sudeepti Sharma, while hearing a contempt petition filed by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Mini Transport Welfare Association, remarked that the officials’ conduct reflected a “continued and deliberate disregard” for judicial directions.
