New Delhi : The weather department has issued warnings for several regions in India, as heavy rainfall is expected in nine states while 13 other states have been alerted for thunderstorms and rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted significant weather changes across the country, including a surge in humidity in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, and an ongoing heatwave in Rajasthan.
In a notable shift, nine states are bracing for heavy rainfall, which is expected to disrupt daily life. The IMD’s forecast predicts intense downpours that could lead to localized flooding and traffic disruptions. The affected states include parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam, where the rain is expected to bring relief to areas that have faced prolonged dry spells in recent weeks. However, the rainfall may also trigger flash floods in low-lying areas, and residents have been advised to stay vigilant.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, the heat index is expected to rise due to high humidity, which could make the weather feel hotter than it actually is. The IMD has issued a heat alert for these regions, warning residents to take precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration. Schools and offices have been advised to adjust schedules to minimize exposure to the intense midday sun.
On the other hand, Rajasthan is experiencing a severe heatwave. The mercury has already surpassed 41 degrees Celsius in Barmar and Jaisalmer, with temperatures continuing to rise. The region has been grappling with extreme heat for several days, and authorities are urging residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon. In some areas, the heatwave is expected to persist for several more days, with no significant relief in sight.
Weather experts have highlighted that while the rainfall could be beneficial for agricultural activities in the rain-hit states, the simultaneous rise in temperatures and humidity in other parts of the country presents a challenging situation. People are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the adverse effects of the changing climate.
