Haryana to Build 6 IMTs, Focus on Jind

Haryana  In a major push to industrial and urban development, the Haryana government has announced the creation of six new Integrated Multimodal Townships (IMTs) across the state. Interestingly, two of these IMTs are set to be developed in Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s home district, Jind, signaling a strategic focus on the region’s economic growth and infrastructure enhancement.

The state government has planned a massive land acquisition drive, aiming to purchase around 35,000 acres for these upcoming townships. These IMTs are envisioned to boost industrial development, create jobs, attract investments, and improve urban planning across Haryana. The move is being seen as part of the state’s broader vision to establish itself as a logistics and industrial hub in North India.

Jind district, which so far has remained relatively underdeveloped compared to cities like Gurugram and Faridabad, is now being positioned for a major transformation. The largest of these six IMTs will be developed in Jind, strategically located between two major expressways – the Ambala-Narnaul Expressway and the Delhi-Katra Expressway. This geographical advantage is expected to turn Jind into a significant economic corridor, connecting it directly with key trade and transport routes.

The announcement has sparked interest among investors, real estate developers, and industrialists who see the opportunity for growth in the newly designated zones. Notably, the development of IMTs is not just about industrialization. These planned townships will include residential, commercial, and recreational areas, making them fully integrated urban spaces. Smart infrastructure, sustainable planning, and public amenities will be at the core of their development.

Officials in the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) confirmed that groundwork for land identification is already underway. The acquisition process will be carried out in phases, with transparency and farmer compensation at the heart of the initiative. The government has also hinted at offering favorable policies to businesses that choose to set up their operations in these IMTs.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has stated that the state’s focus is on balanced regional growth and not just urban-centric development. “By bringing major infrastructure projects to districts like Jind, we aim to unlock their true economic potential and reduce the migration pressure on existing urban centers,” he said.

Residents and local leaders in Jind have welcomed the decision, expressing hope that the project will bring better roads, housing, schools, and hospitals to the region. Some, however, have raised concerns about the impact on agricultural land and the environment, urging the government to ensure sustainable practices and fair treatment for landowners.

With land acquisition set to begin soon and detailed project reports (DPRs) under preparation, Haryana appears ready to enter a new chapter in its development story. The IMTs, particularly the ambitious Jind township, could redefine how growth spreads across the state, balancing industry, infrastructure, and community needs.
