Haryana : The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has announced a power tariff hike for the financial year 2025-26, effective from April 1, 2025. This increase will impact domestic, industrial, and agricultural consumers, leading to a surge in the state’s power subsidy bill.

For domestic consumers, the revised tariffs will now range from ₹2.20 per unit for usage up to 50 units to ₹2.95 per unit for consumption between 101-150 units. The industrial sector is also set to bear a higher cost, with the tariff for 11 kV supply increasing from ₹6.65 to ₹6.95 per unit. Additionally, fixed charges for industrial consumers have surged from ₹165 to ₹290 per kVA per month.

The agricultural sector, a crucial part of Haryana’s economy, has also witnessed a tariff revision. The per-unit cost has been raised from ₹6.48 to ₹7.35. However, farmers will continue to pay only 10 paise per unit, with the state government absorbing the additional burden through subsidies. This move is aimed at shielding farmers from financial strain, ensuring uninterrupted irrigation and agricultural productivity.

With the increased electricity costs, Haryana’s subsidy bill is set to rise substantially. The state government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has reiterated its commitment to supporting the farming community despite the financial burden. Officials have indicated that while the subsidy expenditure will increase, these tariff adjustments are necessary to maintain the financial health of power distribution companies in the state.

The tariff hike comes at a time when Haryana is focusing on strengthening its power infrastructure, balancing economic sustainability with consumer affordability. While the hike may increase expenses for domestic and industrial consumers, government subsidies will continue to shield the farm sector from major cost escalations
