Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday criticized Kerala MLA KT Jaleel for his controversial remarks on Kashmir.
Talking to newspersons here, the Governor termed the CPM-backed Independent MLA’s remarks as unfortunate.
“It is unacceptable to make such comments. I don’t know whether he made such remarks after going through some literature or out of ignorance,” he added.
Earlier, KT Jaleel landed in the soup after he described Jammu and Kashmir as “Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir” and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) as “Azad Kashmir.”
Later, the MLA withdrew his statement. He said certain remarks have been misinterpreted contrary to his intention. Hence, that have been withdrawn for the good of the country and to strengthen friendship among the people, celebrating the 75th anniversary of Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) with one mind, he added.
This was followed by a complaint filed against the Kerala MLA in a police station in Delhi alleging that his statement created communal tension among the people and questioned the integrity and sovereignty of the nation.
Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan alleged that the Kerala MLA used the diplomatic language of Pakistan who is opposing the Indian stand on J and K in every international platform.
Seeking an apology from the MLA, the Opposition leader asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to clarify his stand on the statement by KT Jaleel, who was a minister in the previous CPI(M)-led Government.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders demanded the resignation of the MLA for his anti-India remarks.
CPI(M) Kerala Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said he was not aware of the statement by KT Jaleel. (UNI)
