Mumbai : Popular singer Guru Randhawa has landed in controversy after the release of his latest track Azul. The music video has been accused of sexualising schoolgirls and romanticising a teacher-student relationship, drawing sharp criticism from fans and netizens alike.

Amid the backlash, Randhawa shared a cryptic note on Instagram. Writing in Punjabi, he said,

“Jado mein sab nu khush karn lagga, dukhi ho gya. Ajj mein khud khush hann, sab dukhi ho gaye.”

(When I tried making everyone happy, I was sad. Today, when I am happy, everyone else is sad.)

Earlier, he also posted, “Azul is Azuling. When God is with you, you only move forward,” thanking fans for the song’s trending status.

Why Azul Is Controversial

In Azul, Randhawa plays a photography teacher visiting a girls’ school to take a class photo. Actor Anshika Pandey, portraying a school student, performs a dance that mesmerises his character. Critics argue the video crosses ethical lines and promotes an inappropriate narrative.

Legal Trouble Over Sirra

This controversy comes at a time when Randhawa is also facing legal issues over another song, Sirra. The Samrala sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s court has summoned the singer after a complaint filed by Rajdeep Singh Mann.

The complaint alleges that the lyrics, “We are the sons of Jatts. We got opium as our first food when we were born,” encourage drug use and insult the Jatt community.

What Next for Randhawa?

Despite the controversies, Azul continues to trend online. Industry observers suggest the singer may soon need to issue an official statement to address the growing criticism around his recent releases.
