Grandmaster Gukesh to be the KING at 17 !

Toronto (Canada): Indian teenage grandmaster D Gukesh moved closer to the throne as he captured Candidates Chess Trophy on Monday defeating the American Alireza in the final round in Toronto, Canada. The 17 year old Indian demolished Garry Kaspal and  Mahnus Carlson joint record  they shared 22 years ago as the youngest pair at 19. He defeated  World No. 3, Hikaru Nakamura with 9 points out of 14, though he needed a draw to be on top of the podium.   He had beaten Ferouza Alireza by a wide margin (8.5 Vs 4.5). Gukesh will now set his sights on wining a contest with world No. 1, Ding Liren of China later in the year.

Born on May 29, 2006 in Chennai to a Telugu family, was introduced the ancient Indian Game of Chess by his school master Mr. Bhaskar and encouraged him to get proper coaching to be a FIDE rated player. He didn’t stop back and got Grandmaster grade at age 12 when he carried 5 medals home from Asian Youth Chess Championship winning 10/11 at under-12 contest.
