Govt increases capacity ceiling for Airlines on domestic routes

New Delhi, Jul 5 (UNI) Government has increased the allowed capacity of civil aviation operations on domestic routes from 50 per cent to 65 per cent.
The order issued on Monday by Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in this regard has become effective with immediate affect and will remain in force up to Jul 31, 2021 of until further orders.
“Considering the increasing passengers’ demand for domestic air travel, the capacity of domestic civil aviation operations will be increased to 65 per cent from 50 per cent from the date of issue of this order and up to 31.07.2021 or until further orders.” the ministry twitted along with a copy of the order.
After a blanket ban for two months of scheduled passenger flights in the country last year MoCA had given permission for resumption of air operations from 25 May 2020 with capacity curtailed to 33 per cent of pre-Covid level. It was gradually increased to 80 per cent.
Owing to second wave of pandemic and sharp drop in number of passengers, ministry had again reduced allowed capacity ceiling to 50 per cent on 28 May 2021.
