Govind Sagar tragedy: 7 youth from Mohali drown in the dam
Bodies of drowned youths fished out
Hamirpur/Una (HP): Bodies of all the seven young persons who drowned in the Govind Sagar dam were fished out by the divers on Monday evening.
Hailing from Mohali area of Punjab these seven youngsters drowned in Govind Sagar dam near Baba Balak Nath temple, Androli in Una district today. Those dead were in the age groups of sixteen to thirty-five years, said an official spokesman. Two of the victims were brothers.
An official spokesman said that eleven persons including seven youths had gone to the temple of Maata Naina devi and from there they were on their way to Deotsidh.
Latest reports said that one of them entered the dam and when he didn’t come out another six also rushed into the dam but they too could not return and all of them had drowned in the gushing waters of Govind Sagar dam.
Reports reaching here revealed that hundreds of people had gathered on the bank of the dam when the bodies were fished out.
The parents of the dead were in a state of shock and were weeping.
DSP Kulwinder Singh said that all the bodies had been sent to Una for Postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, HP Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur, former Chief Minister, PK Dhumal and local minister, Virendra Kanwar have expressed their shock and grief over the sad incident and had sent condolence messages to the bereaved families.
On other hand, the state government had issued strict instructions to the administration in the state not to allow anyone to venture near the rivers, dams and rivulets so as to save their lives from the strong current of the water flowing through them. (UNI)
