Ludhiana : Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has called on Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to provide a report on the escalating pollution in the Sutlej River. The Governor is particularly concerned about the polluted tributary, Buddha Nullah, which is being contaminated by industrial chemicals from cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Phagwara. The polluted water is flowing into the Sutlej, which supplies drinking and irrigation water to 12 districts in Rajasthan, including Sriganganagar and Jodhpur. Kataria forwarded concerns from Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde and Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu, calling for urgent action to prevent further contamination. He also emphasized that the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has highlighted the need for a multi-departmental approach to resolve this issue.
During a high-level meeting with various department heads, Kataria called for a coordinated effort to clean Buddha Nullah and prevent future pollution. He urged for de-silting of the tributary and a clear plan of action for long-term preservation and cleaning of the Sutlej.
