Goa Govt’s launches Free Water scheme, 16k litres pm from Sep 1

Panaji, Aug 31 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that from September 1, 2021, onwards residents of the state would start getting 16,000 litres of water per month for free.

Addressing to the people of the state, the Chief Minister said,”Under the Save Water to Get Free Water scheme, we are providing 16,000 litres of water per month free for each of the consumers.”

Calling upon people of the state to participate in the campaign and ensure that water consumption was within the limit, Dr Sawant assured people that consumers would not be charged metre rent or sewerage charges if their consumption was within the limit.

He said approximately 60 per cent of the consumers would be benefitted by the scheme which was first in the country.

The Chief Minister said small businesses would be transferred from the industrial to commercial segment for water billing so that they could avail the benefit of this scheme.

According to Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Deepak Pauskar around 1.5 lakh households in the state are set to benefit from the scheme.

Out of 3.18 lakh water connections in the, 1.5 lakh use up to 16,000 litres every month, the minister had said recently.

He also had said that reservoirs in the state had enough water to cater to the water requirement of people of the state.

According to him, the state requires 600 million litres of water per day (MLD).

In his Independence Day speech, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced to give 16,000 litres of free water to the people of the state.
