Mulheim an der Ruhr (Germany), Mar 10 (UNI) India’s H S Prannoy and men’s doubles team of Krishna Prasad Garga and Vishnuvardhan Panjala on Thursday sailed into the quarterfinal of German Open Super 300 tournament. Prannoy trounced Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-19, 24-22 in a close encounter here at the Westenergie Sporthalle. The men’s doubles team of Krishna and Vishnuvardhan edged past compatriots Ishann Bhatnagar and Sai Pratheek 23-21, 16-21, 21-14. Prannoy will next face the winner of the match between Anthony Sinisuka of Indonesia and world championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen. Krishna and Vishnuvardhan will be up against either Chinese team of He Ji Ting and Zhou Hao Dong or Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian/ Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the quarterfinals. Earlier, former world no 1 and world championships silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth booked his spot in the quarterfinals beating China’s Lu Guang Zu 21-16, 21-23, 21-18. However, India’s challenge in the women’s singles ended on Thursday after ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal suffered defeat in their respective second round matches.
