G Kishan Reddy to meet public representatives from Kargil today
New Delhi, Jun 30 (UNI) A delegation of public representatives from Kargil of the Union Territory of Ladakh is scheduled to meet Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishan Reddy on Thursday at his office here in the North Block to press for their demands relating to protection of their land, jobs and culture.
Sources in the Minister’s office said, the 11-member delegation headed by Asgar Karbalai, president of Kargil Democratic Alliance, a joint forum of social, religious and political organisations, will be meeting Reddy with their demand to protect their rights after abrogation special status under Article 370 of the Constitution to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir of which Ladakh was part.
Officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, a meeting in this regard was held earlier with the representatives from Ladakh, but people from Kargil wanted a separate meeting citing reasons that their concerns were different.
It is expected that the delegation would also place a demand to get protection under Sixth Schedule of the Constitution for people of Kargil so that their apprehension in respect to land, reservation to jobs, culture, language and environment are addressed.
In January this year, the MHA had announced it would form a committee under MoS Reddy to find a solution to issues associated with preservation of Ladakh’s land, culture and language apart from the demand for bringing the UT under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
