Mumbai : Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has once again addressed the controversies surrounding the Kingfisher Airlines crisis and the ongoing legal battles in India. In a recent podcast interview, Mallya strongly denied accusations of theft and insisted that he is not a thief. He explained his side of the story regarding why he left India and why he has not returned since March 2016.

Mallya stated that although he is often labeled a fugitive, he had not fled the country in a hurry or to evade the law. Instead, he said he was on a pre-planned trip abroad and chose not to return because of reasons he believed were justified at that time. He expressed frustration over being called a thief and challenged the legitimacy of such allegations, asking where the theft actually occurred.

During the podcast, Mallya also targeted former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, criticizing his role and comments related to the Kingfisher Airlines case. Mallya expressed that much of the narrative around him has been politically motivated and influenced by misunderstandings.

The Kingfisher Airlines crisis, which led to the suspension of the airline’s operations and mounting debts, has remained a major point of contention in India’s corporate and political spheres. Vijay Mallya has been facing legal proceedings concerning loan defaults and financial irregularities connected to the airline and other business ventures.

Despite multiple extradition attempts by Indian authorities, Mallya continues to reside abroad and has maintained that he will cooperate with the legal system as required but must be treated fairly. He stressed the importance of transparency and the need to separate facts from rumors and media sensationalism.

Mallya’s statements have reignited debates about corporate governance, accountability, and the role of political influence in high-profile financial cases. Supporters argue that he is being unfairly targeted, while critics hold him responsible for the airline’s downfall and massive public loan defaults.

As the legal saga continues, Vijay Mallya’s latest remarks are likely to fuel further discussion and scrutiny around the Kingfisher Airlines collapse and India’s fight against financial crimes.
