New rainfall has caused havoc in the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

DEHRADUN/CHANDIGARH:  On Monday, the torrential rain that has been wreaking havoc throughout North India claimed the lives of 10 people across three states.Rain-related incidents claimed the lives of five people in Uttarakhand, while four people were reported dead in Haryana and one person was confirmed dead in Himachal Pradesh.

On Monday morning, two young girls were taking a swim in the holy river Ganga in the vicinity of the Dangaleshwar temple in the state of Uttarakhand when they tragically perished. In a separate tragedy, two persons lost their lives when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a ravine on the road between Nainital and Kaladhungi.

“On Monday morning, there was a report of a vehicle accident that occurred close to Priya Band on the Nainital Kaladhungi Road. As a result of the collision, two people were pronounced dead at the scene. “SDRF was able to rescue five passengers, all of whom were injured,” said Manikant Mishra, who is the commandant of the Disaster Response Force.

A third incidence occurred when a resident of the village of Kalusidah was washed away while attempting to cross a river. One person was murdered and three others were injured in the early hours of Monday morning in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh after a cloudburst caused a flash flood that carried away their vehicle. The incident occurred at Kayas village in the Raison area of the Kullu district.

The cloudburst left a path of destruction behind it, as it caused nine vehicles to be carried away, one house to be damaged, and significant disruption to the connection of the roads. The death toll from rain-related incidents in Haryana increased by four more people on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 34.

As a result of the significant rainfall that occurred in Haryana on Monday, the water level of the Yamuna increased once more in New Delhi. At six in the morning, the water level was 205.45 metres, and by sunset, it had risen to 205.94 metres. The Central Water Commission estimates that the height of the water during the night might reach 206.1 metres if it continues to climb.
