Former Aam Aadmi Party MLA HS Phoolka Joins BJP, CM Mann extended his wishes
New Delhi : A major political development has emerged from Punjab. Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and senior Supreme Court advocate Harvinder Singh Phoolka (H.S. Phoolka) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday afternoon. After a gap of nearly seven years, Phoolka is returning to active politics, a move being seen as a significant boost for the BJP in the state.
Following Phoolka’s induction into the BJP, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann extended his wishes, stating that leaders who frequently change their political allegiance are often not re-elected by the people. “For now, I can only extend my best wishes to Phoolka Sahib,” he said.
Phoolka had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Ludhiana seat but lost to Ravneet Singh Bittu of the Congress by 19,709 votes. In the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, he won from the Dakha constituency, defeating Akali leader Manpreet Singh Ayali. He formally quit the AAP in January 2019.
A senior lawyer at the Delhi High Court, Phoolka is also a noted human rights activist, author, and politician. He is widely known for his relentless fight to secure justice for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, leading one of the longest and most challenging legal battles. For his efforts, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.
