Foreign secretary Vikram Misri may enhance Indo-China relations.

New Delhi: Former Deputy National Security Advisor and China expert Vikram Misri became foreign secretary this week. He was critical as ambassador to Beijing in 2019–21, notably after the military standoff in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control in May 2020 at Galwan. Indo-China relations are likely to strengthen under him.

India and China may focus on chances and overcome problems, but only time will tell.

Ms. Misri informed Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, that “with continued communication at all levels—political, diplomatic, and military—the two sides could resolve the current difficulties and move the relationship forward” before returning to India in December 2021.

In the same talk with Wang Yi, Misri noted the Indo-China relationship had both potential and difficulties, even though 2020 challenges had outweighed chances.
