FIR Sparks AAP Outrage in Chandigarh Politics

Minister Harpal Cheema slams FIR as baseless; alleges Congress-BJP alliance behind conspiracy…..

Punjab : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly reacted to the FIR registered against two of its senior Punjab leaders in Chandigarh, calling it a politically motivated move orchestrated by a Congress-BJP nexus. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, addressing the media, claimed that the FIR was lodged without any preliminary investigation, raising serious questions about the intent behind the action.

This is AAP’s first official response since the registration of the FIR, which reportedly involves allegations of video tampering and digital manipulation linked to a political campaign. The complaint was filed at the Sector-3 police station in Chandigarh, naming senior party leaders including Cheema and party state president Aman Arora.

In a sharp attack, Minister Cheema accused the Chandigarh administration of being influenced by rival political parties and misusing law enforcement to target AAP ahead of upcoming elections. He said, “It is shameful that such an FIR was registered without verifying any facts. This clearly shows how the BJP and Congress are working hand-in-glove to stop our rise.”

The FIR reportedly involves doctored video content related to Opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa, whose team claims the content was maliciously altered. While the police have not yet made any arrests, they have confirmed that digital forensics are being examined to determine the authenticity of the video clips in question.

AAP has demanded that a fair and transparent inquiry be conducted before jumping to conclusions. “We are not afraid of investigations, but we won’t allow the opposition to weaponize the law,” said Aman Arora in a parallel statement.

The controversy has reignited political tensions in Punjab and Chandigarh, where AAP has been rapidly gaining ground. Analysts believe this FIR could either spark sympathy for AAP or corner them politically depending on how the narrative unfolds in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Congress has denied any collusion and maintained that their complaint is legitimate. The BJP has also distanced itself, stating that the law is taking its own course and no one is above scrutiny.
