Fevicol Deal in works to unite NCP, align with BJP

A Fevicol Deal is now being negotiated in order to bring the NCP and BJP together. The BJP must swiftly promote Ajit Pawar to the position of chief minister of Maharashtra, include Patil in that position, and give two top Cabinet positions at the centre in order to win over the support of the older Pawar.

MUMBAI: Though the parent group of the party, which is with patriarch Sharad Pawar, has only a few Assembly seats, a new plan to keep the disintegrated NCP together is being developed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The parent group seems to have come to terms with the fact that Ajit is far too powerful and that the senior Pawar cannot logically defeat his ambitious relative because of age. Supriya Sule, the daughter of Sharad Pawar, would be accommodated at the Centre as part of the agreement, while Jayant Patil, state president of the parent NCP, will be given a position in the Maharashtra Cabinet. Sunil Tatkare, the present state president of the Ajit Pawar group, will quit while Patil would retain his position as state president.

A key source in the NCP disclosed, on condition of anonymity, that the BJP must swiftly promote Ajit Pawar to chief minister of Maharashtra, include Patil in it, and provide two top Cabinet positions at the Centre in order to win over the older Pawar.

Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Supriya Sule, and Jayant Patil made constituted a four-person committee that Sharad Pawar had already assembled to determine the terms of sharing power with the BJP. The convening of that group resulted in the new formula.

Sharad Pawar was urged to cancel his trip to Bengaluru in order to attend the united opposition meeting on July 17 and 18. On the second day, he travelled to Bengaluru after skipping the first. Supriya had intended to go with him but changed her mind at the last minute as a favour to Ajit,” the insider continued.
