Farmers Occupy Highway Over Pending Compensation Dispute

Tractor-Trolleys Block Road, FIR Against Five Protesters…..

32

Haryana : a dramatic protest erupted as disgruntled farmers, upset over not receiving compensation for their acquired land, attempted to seize a portion of the national highway. The incident occurred near a prominent stretch where the farmers brought tractor-trolleys and began constructing a makeshift boundary wall on the road to assert their claim.

The protest quickly drew attention as traffic was disrupted and tensions began to rise in the area. The farmers claimed that despite repeated appeals and official promises, they had not received the compensation that was due to them for land acquired by the government for infrastructure projects. In frustration, they took the matter into their own hands and began physically occupying the road.

Police arrived at the scene promptly and intervened before the situation could escalate further. According to authorities, the farmers’ actions amounted to illegal encroachment on public property, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against five individuals, including the leading farmer who organized the protest. The police forcefully removed the tractor-trolleys and dismantled the partially built wall to restore traffic movement on the highway.

Local farmer leaders have condemned the police action, stating that peaceful protest is a democratic right. They argue that the government’s failure to provide rightful compensation is a betrayal of trust and has pushed them toward such drastic steps. The incident has sparked widespread debate in the region, with many calling for immediate resolution of pending compensation claims to prevent further unrest.

This highway blockade and subsequent police action highlight the growing tension between farmers and the government over land acquisition issues. Despite several policies in place, delays in payment and bureaucratic red tape continue to plague compensation procedures across various districts in Haryana.

The state administration has assured that the matter is under review and compensation will be addressed as per legal norms. However, farmer groups have warned of intensifying their agitation if the matter is not resolved soon.

The situation remains sensitive, and authorities are closely monitoring farmer movements in the area to prevent further escalation.
