Hamirpur (HP): In view of the provisions of sub-section (1) and sub-section (2) of section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, by the Election Commission of India, the conduct of exit polls of any kind and publication or publicity of its results by print and electronic media or any other means of publicity thereof has been prohibited during the period between 8.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on the day of the poll on November 12.
A spokesman of the Election Commission said today that under section 126(1)B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any opinion poll or any opinion poll in any electronic media during the 48 hours ending at the time fixed for the conclusion of polling in the respective polling areas in the general election will be banned.
Whoever contravenes the provisions of the section shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years or with a fine, or with both. (UNI)
