‘Encanto’ tops North American box office for 2nd straight week
Los Angeles, Dec. 5 (UNI/Xinhua) Disney’s animated film ‘Encanto’ repeated as the winner of the North American box office this weekend with a three-day estimate of 12.7 million U.S. dollars, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.
‘Encanto’ snared the biggest opening of the COVID-19 pandemic era for an animated title over the Thanksgiving weekend last week. The original musical fantasy film has grossed 58 million dollars in North America so far.
‘Encanto’ is the 60th animated feature produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Directed by Byron Howard, Jared Bush and Charise Castro Smith, the film tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.
Internationally, the film brought in 20.7 million dollars in 49 markets this weekend for a global cume of 116.1 million dollars.
