CAIRO: The Egyptian artists’ syndicate denied Travis Scott’s planned concert at the Giza pyramids on Tuesday, citing “traditions”.

The powerful musicians’ association rarely opposes such performances, but in recent years has led a fight against Egypt’s unsuitable musical styles, including rap.
Egypt has also criticised African-American movements who claim cultural ties to the ancient pharaohs as “rewriting” history.
On Tuesday, the musicians’ union in the Arab world’s most populous nation claimed Scott’s concert would “go against our traditions”.
The union stated it did not interfere with musical performances that “do not undermine the ancestral customs and traditions of the Egyptian people”.
“The syndicate found images and documented information on the strange rituals he practises, which go against our traditions” after reviewing social media and “the artist’s positions,” the statement stated.
It does not disclose which “rituals” the union attributes to the hip-hop heavyweight, who is on a world tour.
