Dr Lal Singh conferred with prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Award

Shimla, Nov 12(UNI) Shimla-based NGO Himalayan Research Group convenor Dr Lal Singh was on Friday conferred with the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Award for the use of Science and Technology for Rural Development 2021.
This is for the 1st time that a scientist from HP has been selected for such a great honour. Dr Lal Singh, is Director of the Himalayan Research Group (HRG), our Non-Government Organization based at Shimla.
Dr. Lal Singh belongs to Mandi district of the state and after graduating from Vallabh Government College, Mandi, he has done his PhD in Botany.
The award, considered to be an esteemed honour, is annually given for outstanding contribution in the field of application of science and technology for rural and tribal development, particularly for the benefit of the weaker
sections of the society.
This important award was instituted in 1978 and consists of a cash prize of Rs. 10 lac, a trophy, and a citation. It is first time in the state, a scientist has been selected for this prestigious award.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur congratulated Dr Singh for this award.
This is an extraordinary achievement for a person belonging to rural areas, CM added.
