Shimla, April 27: A devastating fire broke out at the Shimla Rural Depot workshop of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), located in Dhali outskirts of this state capital tonight. Reports and visuals received on social media indicated that an old transport corporation bus parked in the workshop caught fire and was reduced to ashes. A sudden fire broke out in the workshop at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday night. A watchman on night duty immediately informed the fire department and higher officials of HRTC about the blaze. The drivers of the corporation removed four other buses from the queue, saving them from coming in the leaps of flames. HRTC Managing Director Sandeep Kumar, Regional Manager Shimla Local Vinod Sharma, Regional Manager Headquarters Deva Singh Negi and other officials rushed to the spot. MD Sandeep Kumar told UNI that an old bus parked in the workshop was reduced to ashes in the mishap, besides other property, the estimate of which could not be ascertained immediately and could be confirmed after the actual assessment of the loss. He said that the reason of the incident would be probed. Preliminary information suggested that an old tire of the bus kept in the workshop caught fire, which spread rapidly. Four fire engines were deployed to douse the inferno, which took hours to be brought under control. On receiving information, Shailendra Chauhan, Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Shimla, also reached the spot. (UNI)
