Chandigarh The holy month of Sawan (Shravan) continues to draw immense devotion and energy, as seen on its second Monday at Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha Shiv Mandir, located in Sector 8, Chandigarh. Devotees turned out in large numbers to offer prayers, perform rituals, and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during one of the most spiritually significant months in the Hindu calendar.

The temple premises were beautifully adorned with flowers, lights, and traditional decorations. Devotees, dressed in saffron and white, began arriving at the temple early in the morning. Chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” and “Har Har Mahadev” echoed throughout the day, creating a powerful spiritual ambiance.

The day began with Abhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Linga using milk, honey, water, curd, and ghee, followed by the offering of bael leaves, dhatura, and seasonal fruits. Priests performed the Rudrabhishek and other Vedic rituals as per traditional customs.

Special arrangements were made for the large crowd, including water stalls, prasad distribution, and shaded waiting areas. Volunteers from the temple management worked tirelessly to ensure that the flow of devotees remained smooth and peaceful throughout the day.

Many devotees observed fasts on this sacred Monday and offered prayers not only for personal well-being but also for global peace and prosperity. “Sawan is a month where Lord Shiva showers his blessings on all. Coming here to this temple fills my soul with peace,” said one of the regular visitors, a resident of Sector 9.

The temple committee also organized bhajan and kirtan sessions in the evening, drawing devotees to stay back and immerse themselves in spiritual music.

Sawan holds special importance for followers of Lord Shiva, especially the Mondays (Sawan Somwar), which are believed to be extremely auspicious. Chandigarh’s Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha Shiv Mandir has become a central hub for such celebrations every year.

With three more Mondays remaining in the holy month, temple authorities expect the crowd to grow with each passing week. The atmosphere of devotion, discipline, and celebration remains high, reminding everyone of the cultural richness and spiritual depth that festivals like Sawan bring to Indian society.
