Delhi Police starts removing barricades at Singhu Border
New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Days after the announcement of suspension of the year-long farmers’ agitation against scrapped three farm laws and farmers started retuning their homes, the Delhi police on Sunday started removing cemented barricades it had put up at Singhu Border to stop the agitators from entering the city.
The farmers started dismantling their tents and temporary structures at Delhi borders like Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur after Samyuktha Kisan Morcha (SKM), which was spearheading the protests, announced the suspension of the year-long agitation.
The police sources said, all the concrete and iron barricades and cemented blocks will be removed from the roads very soon. In fact, police already started removing cemented barricades at Singhu border which was one of the protesting sites.
The announcement came after the SKM received a formal letter from the Centre, through the Secretary, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, agreeing to several pending demands of the protesting farmers.
The farmers are uprooting their temporary structures and returning to their villages in a phased manner since the SKM declared the suspension of agitation.
Convoys of decked up tractor trolleys and other vehicles blaring victory songs left the borders. Flowers were showered at them at several places, and farmers were seen celebrating, dancing and singing, all soaking in the victory.
SKM had mentioned that the protest is only suspended and not ended, to ensure that the Centre is keeping to its commitments made to the protesting farmers, and to chart out future course of action, SKM will hold its next meeting on January 15 next year in Delhi.
