Delhi Gurudwara committee elections to be held on Aug 22: Delhi govt to HC
Shiromani Akali Dal had filed appeal for immediate elections
New Delhi, Jul 22 (UNI) The elections to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will be held on August 22, the city government’s Directorate of Gurdwara Elections informed the Delhi High Court on Thursday.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D N Patel and comprising Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing a plea by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) seeking directions for immediate resumption of the election process that had been stalled and postponed.
Directorate’s counsel Satyakam apprised the bench that the entire process of the DSGMC elections would be over by August 31, with counting scheduled to begin on August 25.
Earlier, the elections which were notified for April 25 this year, had been postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19. SAD’s counsel Abinash K Mishra said that since the COVID-19 pandemic had subsided, there was no reason to keep the election process in an ‘adjourned sine die mode’.
