DC Komal Mittal Inaugurates 40th Annual Sports Day at Shaheed Major Harminderpal Singh Government College, Phase 6, Mohali

SAS Nagar; Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today inaugurated the 40th Annual Sports Day at Shaheed Major Harminderpal Singh Government College, Phase 6, Mohali.  Addressing the students on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner called upon them to focus on maintaining good health through active participation in sports alongside their academic pursuits. She emphasized that sports play a vital role in instilling discipline, fostering team spirit, and teaching essential life skills.

She remarked that the Principal, staff, and students of the college are fortunate to have such a grand sporting event every year, which consistently adds to their achievements and opens avenues for participation in competitions at the university and national levels.

Highlighting the importance of holistic development, she stated that along with an excellent academic career, involvement in sports is crucial for shaping and refining the personality of students. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner was accorded a ceremonial salute during the march past presented by the participating sportspersons.

Principal Jaspreet Kaur Bains, Sports Head Simerpreet Kaur, along with faculty members and students, were also present during the function.

A wide range of athletic events was conducted during the meet, including track events such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, and 5000m races, along with field events like long jump, discus throw, and shot put. The students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm, displaying remarkable talent, determination, and true sportsmanship throughout the competition.

The winners were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony. The titles of Best Athlete (Boys) and Best Athlete (Girls) were conferred upon Manish Kumar and Arshpreet Kaur, respectively, in recognition of their outstanding performances and exemplary achievements.
