NEW DELHI/GUWAHATI: On Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Sanjay Singh was expelled from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the current session after repeatedly disobeying the Chair’s instructions. This changed the course of the present debate in Parliament about the Manipur crisis.

The Opposition started a day-and-night sit-in protest at the Gandhi statue in the Parliament compound, demanding the lifting of his selective suspension.Following a resolution made by House Leader Piyush Goyal, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar imposed a suspension. By voice vote, the House approved it.

Sushmita Dev, a Rajya Sabha member, told this publication that the allies of India would stage a sit-in protest till the suspension was lifted. “We’ll take turns sitting down. Along with Jairam Ramesh, Derek O’Brien, Sanjay Singh, and Manoj Jha, I sat from 4-6 pm on Monday. There will always be more than 10 MPs, according to Dev, who also argued that his suspension was unjustified.

“I find it surprising that such a drastic action was taken. I believe it has to do with the Delhi Ordinance’s mathematical calculations. We all want a statement on Manipur from the PM, as Sanjay Singh was doing. Around 20 MPs were there at the time, according to Dev.

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned earlier in the day amid commotion over the Opposition’s request to hold a Manipur discussion under Rule 267. In both Houses, a number of lawmakers made adjournment motions related to the issue.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government is eager to undertake debates on Manipur in Parliament amid commotion in the Lok Sabha and urged the Opposition to permit it to happen. “A discussion about Manipur has been desired by some members. I’m prepared for the talk even though this is a really delicate subject. I implore the opposition leader to consent to the discussion. It’s crucial that the truth gets revealed, he said.
