Copenhagen, May 3: Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday urged India to use its influence with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine conflict. In her press statement following talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she expressed hope that India would be able to influence Russia to end the Ukraine conflict. The Danish PM said the two leaders had discussed the Ukraine conflict. “We share many values, both believe in rules-based international system and as close partners we also discussed the Ukraine conflict, and the consequences of the horrible crimes committed against civilians and the serious humanitarian crisis in Ukraine,” she said. “The reports of killings of civilians in Bucha are deeply shocking; we have condemned the killings and we have stressed the need for an independent investigation.” She said that “Denmark and the entire EU strongly condemn Russia’s unlawful and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.” “My message is very clear, Putin has got to stop this war, and to end the killings. I of course hope that India will influence Russia also in this discussion,” she added. In a tweet, she said that the two “also talked about the war in Ukraine.” “Made Denmark and EU’s position clear, and that we would like to see India use its influence with Putin.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his remarks on Ukraine, said that India has called for immediate cessation of the fighting and stressed on diplomacy and dialogue to end the conflict.
