Dalit Chetna Manch stages protest, CBI probe demanded on Prof. death
Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Dalit Chetna Manch on Monday staged a protest, demanding probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the alleged suicide case of a psychology professor Dr Chander Shekhar who was found hanging inside his office chamber at University of Jammu.
The members of civil society and social activists under the banner of All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch led by its president Sham Lal Basson demanded enquiry by CBI and punishment to the culprit.
“We smell a deep-rooted conspiracy that led to extreme steps taken by the professor and was likely to become Head of the Department,” he added.
He claimed that a complaint was lodged against Chander Shekhar on September 1 and thereafter three holidays were in falling while his suspension order was served to him on September 7 following which he committed suicide on the same day.
Notably, the deceased was suspended on the allegations of sexual harassment by some students.
Basson also thanked Jammu University Teacher Association (JUTA) for the support and demanded CBI enquiry, dispossession of all those persons who are responsible for the death of Dr Chander Shekhar.
Sunita Bangotra, president All J&K Savitri Bai Phule Mahila Sangathan and other members also protested demanding a probe by an independent agency.
