New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) As Delhi continues to witness a sharp rise in fresh COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that the lockdown in the National Capital is being extended by one more week.
“Lockdown in Delhi is being extended by one week,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
It is the second extension of the COVID-19 lockdown in the National Capital to curb spread of Coronavirus.
Delhi, which is already under a lockdown since April 19, 2200 hrs, is currently reeling under severe crisis of Oxygen shortage along with a sharp surge in coronavirus cases.
The Capital has recorded its highest 412 COVID-19 fatalities in a day and 25,219 new instances of the infection with a case positivity rate of 31.61 per cent . For the 13th straight day, Delhi has reported more than 20 thousand new COVID-19 cases per day.
Earlier on April 25, the Delhi Chief Minister had announced the extension of COVID-19 lockdown in the city for seven more days till 0500 hrs of May 3 (Monday).
While announcing the first extension of the COVID-19 lockdown on April 25, Mr Kejriwal had said, ‘COVID continues to wreak havoc in the city; public opinion is that lockdown should be extended, and so the lockdown is being extended for one week.’
Prior to this, COVID-19 lockdown in Delhi was first imposed on April 19 for six days till 0500 hrs of April 26.
Mr Kejriwal on April 19 announced the six-day lockdown in Delhi in the wake of a sharp surge in coronavirus cases in the city.
