Congress mourns Oommen Chandy, Kharge praises his imaginative leadership.

NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge mourned Oommen Chandy’s death on Tuesday, saying that the former Kerala chief minister’s unwavering commitment and visionary leadership had left an indelible mark on the state’s progress and the nation’s politics.

His family reported Chandy died in Bengaluru early Tuesday.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of former Kerala chief minister and esteemed Congress leader Oommen Chandy,” the Congress tweeted.

“A political stalwart, his contributions to Kerala’s development will be remembered. He inspired generations as a statesman. His family and loved ones have our deepest sympathies. It wished him eternal peace.

Party president Kharge mourned Chandy’s death, calling him a dedicated Congressman and a mass leader.

His dedication and visionary leadership shaped Kerala’s prosperity and the nation’s politics. His public service will be remembered. “Sympathies to the family and supporters,” he tweeted.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh called Chandy an amazing personality and a great mass leader.

“A man of great simplicity and unfailing courtesy, he was a 24×7 politician giving everything he had to the welfare of his constituents and the people of Kerala,” he said.

Ramesh stated Chandy’s chief ministership was marked by several achievements that were hailed by the UN.
