Compensation to kin of farmers who died a state matter: Agriculture Minister
Nop farmer killed in police action, in any state during agitation
New Delhi, Dec 10: Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Friday the matter of compensation to farmers who died during the year long farmers’ protests was with the state governments, and said no one was killed in police action during the protests.
In a written question in Rajya Sabha, the Minister was asked if Government is making any provisions for the livelihood or a compensation to the next of kin of the farmers who died during the agitation.
“The subject of compensation etc. to the families of the deceased farmers in the farmers movement is with the concerned State Governments. No farmer died as a result of police action during the farmers’ agitation,” Tomar said in his reply.
Farmer groups under the banner of Samyukt Kisan Morcha have announced that their protest at Delhi borders, and other places will be withdrawn on December 11 as an agreement was reached between the farmers and union government.
According to farmer groups around 700 farmers died during the protests that went on for over a year.
The three farm laws were repealed by Parliament on November 29, the first day of Winter Session.
