Committed to comprehensive rehabilitation of flood-hit families : CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the state government was committed to ensuring a structured and comprehensive rehabilitation process for families affected by the recent floods, following his visit to some of the worst-hit areas in the state.

Sharing details of his tour on social media platform X, Sarma said he spent the previous day visiting flood-affected regions to assess the extent of the damage and lay the groundwork for a coordinated flood response.

“Yesterday, I spent the day on ground in the worst affected areas to assess the damages and lay the groundwork for a proper and well structured #AssamFloodResponse. I reassured the people of our Govt’s full support to them as they rebuild their lives and return to normalcy,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

His visit comes as several districts in Upper Assam continue to recover from recent floods that inundated villages, damaged public infrastructure, breached roads and embankments, and affected thousands of families.

During his interactions with residents, Sarma reviewed the extent of the damage and assured them of the government’s continued support throughout the rehabilitation and reconstruction process. He also stressed the need for a coordinated approach to restoring infrastructure, rebuilding homes and reviving livelihoods.

The state government has initiated relief and restoration measures in the affected districts, while officials are conducting damage assessments to facilitate compensation and long-term rehabilitation. Departments concerned have been directed to expedite the restoration of roads, bridges, electricity and drinking water supply.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in coordination with district administrations, continues to monitor the flood situation and oversee relief operations. Although water levels have receded in most areas, several villages continue to face the impact of damaged infrastructure and agricultural losses.

The government said its focus is gradually shifting from immediate relief measures to the rehabilitation of affected families, restoration of essential infrastructure and the early return to normalcy.
