Chennai: The Coimbatore City police on Saturday said it has completed the probe into the last Sunday’s car blast case, in which a radicalized IS person was killed, and said the documents were handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The investigation into the case, which had terror links, has been transferred to the NIA by the Centre following recommendations from Chief Minister MK Stalin as such cases might have inter-state dimensions and global ramifications.
Talking to reporters in the Textile City of Coimbatore, Police Commissioner Balakrishnan said the investigations by the police have been completed and the details would be handed
over to the NAI after consolidating them later today.
“We have been consolidating all the documents and evidence collected in the car blast case and it will be handed over to the NIA team of officials”, he said.
After an order issued by the Union Home Ministry transferring the probe to the NIA, the Investigating Agency in Chennai had
registered the case under Sections 120 (B), 153 A of the IPC
and under Secs 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act) (UAPA) against Jameesha Mubin, 29, of Kottaimedu, who
was killed in the car blast that took place in front of a Kottai Veeran temple, and six others, who were arrested after the
blast, including five who were nabbed less than 24 hours after the incident.
Balakrishnan said “we have taken custody of the five arrested and completed the first set of investigations. The police have
been preparing and consolidating all the documents and material evidence collected so far, to be handed over to the NIA and
the process will be completed today after which the NIA team will start the investigation.”

A team of seven NIA officials headed by Inspector Vignesh, who is the Investigating Officer of the case, arrived at the
temporary office. (UNI)
