CJI Ramana expresses concern over lack of investigative journalism in Indian media
New Delhi, Dec 15: Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana on Wednesday expressed concern over lack of investigative journalism in Indian media.
He said the concept of investigative journalism was unfortunately vanishing from the media canvas, at least in the Indian context.
Justice Ramana was speaking at virtual function organised to launch a book – Blood Sanders: The Great Forest Heist – written by Udumula Sudhakar Reddy, a journalist.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, the Chief Justice called upon the media to introspect and test itself against his words that the newspapers should be read for the study of facts and they should not be allowed to kill the habit of independent thinking.
Justice Ramana said that if locals were involved in conservation efforts of red sander, it would make a huge difference. He said like all good things in this world, red sanders also fell prey to the greed of man.
He added that the strategy to engage tribals as forest guards yielded good results in tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries and this could be replicated in the conservation of red sanders.
