New Delhi : Actress Chitrangada Singh has opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood and a career in the film industry. In a recent interview, she revealed that after becoming a mother, she took a seven-year-long break from acting, which significantly impacted her career. Her candid remarks come amidst a growing conversation in the film industry about the work-life balance of female artists, especially those who are also mothers.

Chitrangada shared that becoming a mother brought immense joy, but also made it difficult to keep up with the demanding schedules of the industry. She said that while taking care of her son, it became almost impossible to focus on her career the way she used to. “I made a conscious choice to be with my child, and that meant stepping away from the spotlight for a while. Of course, there was a professional cost, but I have no regrets,” she said.

This discussion has gained momentum ever since actress Deepika Padukone, who is currently expecting her first child, reportedly asked filmmakers to keep her work shifts limited to eight hours post-motherhood. Chitrangada strongly supports this idea and said that it’s time the industry adopts a more structured and family-friendly work culture.

“We’ve reached a point where working mothers in every field are speaking up for healthier work conditions, and the entertainment industry should be no different. An 8-hour shift is not only reasonable but necessary for new mothers,” she emphasized.

Chitrangada also reflected on how such flexibility could have helped her continue working without a long hiatus. She mentioned that while times are changing, there’s still a need for more awareness and acceptance when it comes to supporting women who juggle both family and career.

Now back in the industry, Chitrangada feels proud to be part of a larger movement where female voices are being heard and respected. Her experience, she hopes, can inspire other women in the film industry to speak up and seek the balance they deserve.
