New Delhi : In the aftermath of India’s daring Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror camps of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Chinese government has finally broken its silence. As Pakistan reels from the shock and fear triggered by the surgical airstrikes, China has issued a cautious but pointed response, expressing concern over the escalating conflict and urging both sides to maintain peace and stability in the region.

India’s action, a direct response to the brutal April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, has drawn global attention. While many nations have remained guarded in their public statements, China’s reaction is being seen as a significant geopolitical signal, given its deep economic and military ties with Pakistan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed regret over the rising tensions and called upon both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint.

According to official sources, China emphasized the importance of regional stability and highlighted that both countries must avoid actions that could further escalate the conflict. “Peace in South Asia is in everyone’s interest,” the Chinese spokesperson said during a media briefing, while avoiding a direct criticism of India’s counter-terror strike.

India, on the other hand, has firmly stood by its operation, asserting that it was a precision airstrike meant to dismantle active terror infrastructures that posed an immediate threat to national security. The Indian government maintains that the strike was necessary, targeted, and justified under the right to self-defense.

Pakistan’s leadership, shaken by the scope and precision of the strike, has issued multiple statements condemning India’s actions and vowing retaliation. However, there is a visible lack of global support for Pakistan’s stance, with most countries, including China, focusing on de-escalation.

China’s call for peace comes at a critical juncture as the South Asian region grapples with heightened military alertness and public anxiety. Indian defense forces remain on high alert, and diplomatic corridors are buzzing with activity to manage the situation without triggering a full-scale war.

As Operation Sindoor sends strong shockwaves across the border, China’s diplomatic balancing act between its all-weather ally Pakistan and rising regional power India will be closely watched in the days to come.
