Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Approves 53 New Advertisement Sites
Expected annual revenue of ₹12 crore; 75 hoardings to be installed, e-auction in three zones
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has approved 53 new advertisement sites across the city, aiming to boost revenue through outdoor advertising. The decision, taken in the recent House meeting, is projected to generate an annual income of approximately ₹12 crore.
Under the new plan, a total of 75 hoardings will be installed at the approved locations. These sites have been strategically selected to ensure high visibility and compliance with urban aesthetics. The corporation will conduct an e-auction to allot these sites, dividing them into three separate zones for better management and competitive bidding.
Officials from the Municipal Corporation stated that the move is part of their efforts to increase non-tax revenue while streamlining the outdoor advertising sector. “This will not only help regulate unauthorized hoardings but also provide a significant financial boost to the civic body,” an official said. Each of the three zones will include a mix of prime and mid-level locations. The e-auction process is expected to begin within the next few weeks, with participation open to private advertising agencies and media firms.
In addition to revenue generation, the Corporation has emphasized the importance of maintaining design standards, ensuring that the hoardings do not obstruct traffic views or disturb the city’s visual appeal. The Urban Planning Department will oversee the placement and structure of the hoardings. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar welcomed the proposal, stating, “This is a progressive step toward utilizing public space efficiently while also contributing to the city’s income. We aim for a transparent and fair allotment process.”
Some opposition members, however, raised concerns over potential encroachment and environmental impact, demanding strict enforcement of advertising guidelines. The new advertising policy also includes digital display boards and LED screens in key commercial zones, which will be introduced in later phases. This development is part of Chandigarh’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure, improve public services, and increase self-sufficiency in municipal funding.
