Chandigarh Crackdown: Drug Lords Lose Millions!
Properties worth crores frozen, bail denied for one year….
Chandigarh : In a major development against drug trafficking in Chandigarh, authorities are now preparing to attach more properties belonging to drug peddlers operating in the region. This move comes after assets worth ₹3.69 crore were already frozen in the first phase of the crackdown, sending shockwaves through the drug syndicates.
Sources have confirmed that the Chandigarh Police, in coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), has identified several properties suspected to be purchased through drug money. The next phase of action will involve legal proceedings to attach these assets permanently under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
One of the key accused, notorious drug peddler Bala, along with two others, has been denied bail for one year under preventive detention. The authorities argued that granting them bail could hamper the ongoing investigation and pose a threat to public safety, a plea which the court upheld.
This aggressive strategy aims to not just arrest drug traffickers but also dismantle their financial networks and economic power. Officials say the drug mafia in and around Chandigarh has been using real estate and luxury vehicles to launder money. By freezing and attaching these assets, the administration hopes to strike at the core of these criminal empires.
The operation also involves digital surveillance and financial tracking of suspects, including bank accounts, property transactions, and shell companies. Multiple bank accounts linked to suspicious transactions have been flagged and are currently under investigation.
The administration has made it clear that no leniency will be shown to anyone involved in the drug trade, regardless of their political or social connections. This action has received public support, with many residents praising the move as a much-needed step toward cleansing the city of narcotics.
The crackdown is a part of a larger, statewide anti-drug campaign initiated to eliminate the rising drug menace. More arrests and asset seizures are expected in the coming weeks.
