CET Exam Clears Just One Hurdle for Jobs

Haryana Clearing the Common Eligibility Test (CET) in Haryana is no longer the final ticket to a government job. While qualifying the exam is a critical milestone, it merely ensures your place in the next round. The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) has made it clear that passing CET only makes you eligible to be considered in the main selection process, where the competition tightens.

Candidates often assume that once they pass CET, they are certain to land a job. However, that’s not true. After clearing CET, aspirants will be shortlisted—ten times the number of total vacancies—for the next phase of recruitment. For example, if there are 1,000 vacancies, around 10,000 candidates will be called in for further tests, interviews, or skill evaluations.

The CET is applicable for various Group C and Group D posts in Haryana. The pay scale for selected candidates ranges from ₹9,500 to ₹53,500 per month, depending on the position and department. With such decent salaries and job security, the CET has attracted lakhs of applicants across the state.

This new structure aims to ensure that only the most suitable candidates make it to the final merit list. While the CET helps filter out unqualified aspirants, the actual appointment is based on deeper assessment, including experience, qualifications, and skill-based evaluations.

Many students have started preparing under the assumption that CET alone is enough. That is where most candidates go wrong. The HSSC has emphasized that only those who perform well in the final round will secure government employment. It’s crucial to be fully informed about the entire process rather than celebrating too early.

Moreover, applicants should also be aware of category-wise cutoffs, reservation benefits, and documentation required at different stages. Mistakes in application forms or missing documents during verification can also lead to disqualification—even after clearing all tests.

Aspiring candidates are advised to not only prepare for CET but also stay updated with the next steps in the recruitment process. Career guidance experts suggest treating CET as the qualifying threshold, not the finish line. Thorough preparation, consistent focus, and clarity on eligibility rules are key to eventually landing the job.
