NEW DELHI:

Congressman Gaurav Gogoi urged that the Supreme Court establish a fact-finding panel to look at significant shortcomings in the law and order in the state, a day after the Centre notified the court that the CBI will take up the investigation into the Manipur viral video issue. Gogoi is a member of the 21-member team from INDIA, the opposition coalition, that is visiting Manipur for two days.

The delegation would tour all communities in Manipur, according to the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, who was speaking to this newspaper. The state is continuously experiencing violence. The situation is very unstable and people are continually dying. We intend to meet everyone who is impacted, including those in the relief camps, he said.

Gogoi claimed that the government is misrepresenting the situation in the violent state to the court and the general public. The Court has been asked by the Centre to order that the trial take place outside of Manipur. “The state’s condition regarding law and order has completely broken down. How did people have access to weapons and ammo while looting so many police stations? A number of ladies were abused. A neutral, impartial judicial investigation into this horrifying incident is necessary, he argued.

Gogoi introduced a no-trust resolution against the Modi administration in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. “Despite the Prime Minister’s frequent references to the dignity of women, he has never met any victims of violence in Manipur. He’s crying like a crocodile, he said. Gogoi continued that the Centre has been attempting to deflect attention away from its inability to improve the situation in the state.
